may I direct your attention...

hello dear readers!

David and I will probably not be updating this website as often, because the wedding has passed. But, we do still have exciting things happening in our lives, and we want you to be informed about that, as well as be able to stay in touch with us.

So, may we direct your attention to Megan's website, http://www.princesslasertron.com. Here is where she posts updates about our lives on a daily basis.

One of the best things about our wedding was the amount of friends and family that reached out to us, who we hadn't heard from in so long. Please keep in touch!

xoxo

our professional photos!

We finally got our professional wedding photos back from Becky Novacek!

I would post them here but there are SO many, and it's just getting too late at night for me to do all the CSS needed to make a "read more" link...so I'll link you instead to my journal entry about them!

Through that link you can see my favorites. Here are some links to the photos on flickr, if you'd rather look at them all.

1. pre-wedding shots (all the good ones--107 of them--are on flickr here.)

2. ceremony shots (45 photos here.)

3. a few family shots (20 photos here.)

4. and now, pictures of the PARTY! (68 photos here.)

vendors!

I wanted to make a post to talk about the vendors we used for our wedding. They worked so hard and made the party of our dreams come to life, and I really want to share some information about them and talk about what a great job they did!

The Dress
Joi Mahon, owner of Dress Forms Design turned my vision for a cupcakey, confectionary, almost goth-y, pink polka-dot dress into reality and I REALLY couldn't be more happy. My mom found her through a blind google search, and we drove several times to her Sioux City studio for consultations, fittings, and even a fashion show that she asked me to participate in!

Oh, and the craziest effing thing. On the day of my last fitting, right after I got the dress on, I opened the door to the dressing room to see Joi's adorable 4-year-old daughter wearing an EXACT REPLICA OF MY DRESS. TO A T. NO CORNERS CUT. It was so adorable. I could have died. I hear she is wearing it to her preschool graduation! :)

The Food
Catering Catering of Blair, Nebraska could not have been easier to work with. We wanted a vegan menu, and they did it. They did not say, "Sorry, but that isn't on our menu." They did not say, "We have never done that before." Paula, the owner, was completely enthusiastic, bought all the new snazzy vegan cookbooks, and presented us with many delicious things to taste. I have never worked with a company or been to an event that used such a flexible, reliable, professional caterer.

They devised a really ingenious buffet setup made from industrial metal shelving from Target. By putting two or three shelves on each tall unit and joining them all together in a zig-zag shape, they were able to create sort of a vertical buffet line which looked cool and also saved space. I wish I had a better photo of it. This is just one that my mom took. Maybe our photographer has more!

The Flowers
Several years ago I went into business creating custom orders of flowers out of felt and buttons. The company was dubbed Princess Lasertron, a nickname my then-boyfriend-now-husband has always called me. The boutonnieres were created with bright purple and green vintage buttons, and the stems were wrapped with black and white polka-dot ribbon. My singular bridesmaid held a bouquet made of green, black, and white flowers with soft felt petals and vintage button centers. The stem was wrapped with purple grosgrain ribbon and secured with black pearl-headed pins. My bouquet was similar, but bigger, and with pink, black, and white flowers. Both bouquets had LOTS of bling in the buttons! And I also made felt flower corsages for our mothers and grandmothers.

The Venue
We had our wedding at The Slowdown, a new music venue in Omaha, Nebraska. It's gorgeous, with stark, modern, industrial construction. It's always been non-smoking which was important to us in selecting a venue, it has a fabulous stage and a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system. And it also helps that the employees are helpful and knowledgeable about the venue, the area, and the best way to use the space!

The Photographer
Becky Novacek. Becky Becky Becky. No one else could have done what she did. I met Becky about two years ago at a local paper art workshop called Silver Bella, where she was teaching a class about using mixed media on canvas. I then began reading her blog, and was just amazed by her photography. Her photos not only capture the personalities of her subjects perfectly, but she also uses color to an extent that is just eye-popping. A year ago, she took a series of photos of me, and that was a birthday gift from my mom. All of the shots were fabulous. So when my wedding came around, we wouldn't have thought of anyone but Becky.

The Rings
We ordered our bands from Kathryn Reichert on etsy.com. The insides are stamped with "megan loves david" or "david loves megan." My blingy ring is a custom made bezel setting from Goldsmith Silversmith in Omaha, Nebraska.
