Now, this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside-down, and I'd like to take a minute--just sit right there--I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air. No actually this is a story all about how we got engaged.
One cold February night, Megan decided that she was going to ask David to marry her.
Step one: get an engagement ring. Megan found jeweler Kathryn Reichert through an artisan website. We had bought posey rings from her before that had Megan loves David/David loves Megan stamped on the insides, and had been wearing them for about a year. So Megan went to her again to have an engagement ring made for Dave.
Of course the proposal had to be more than just giving a ring. Megan ended up making a book that told a story about how we met. She illustrated each page with drawings of us.
The plan then was to propose during a walk in the park in Chicago later that year on a trip to see our favorite band, VNV Nation. What could be more perfect?
Well, when we got around to the trip (which was during Dave's finals week when he was taking Organic Chemistry, we should mention), it was about 35 degrees and raining. It SUCKED. And we didn't really bring enough warm things to wear. So the proposal in the park idea was out of the question. We went to our favorite restaurant there--The Chicago Diner, a vegan place--and Meg decided it was as good a moment as any and gave him the book, then gave him the ring.
We cried. We got free cake. Then we went to the concert. Then we came home. Then he took the Organic Chemistry final.
